Otherwise known as heaven. Seriously though, we love our kids to pieces (you might even say I am borderline obsessed with them), but we were so so so excited to get away by ourselves which I think you will see evidenced in the following pictures ;). Ahhhh, as soon as we stepped off the plane and got outside, the air was thick with excitement (and humidity).
Welcome drink at the Barecelo :).
Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived, but that was no problem (is anything really problematic when you are in Mexico?) because we got our bracelets and were good to wander around the resort spotting several iguanas right off the bat. Seeing them pop up in their natural habitat is one of my favorite parts about Mexico- spotting them never gets old to me.
One of my favorite parts about our scheduled vacation is that we were scheduled to depart on Wes's birthday- he works so hard for our family taking care of the girls that it was nice that he was able to let loose and have a shot (or two or three or four ;)) on his actual birthday.
Shortly after lunch, we headed to the pool.
And tested out Wes's new waterproof case for his phone- that's me you see poking out through the water.
So fun to be able to take pictures in the water!!
After swimming, we got settled in our hotel room, rested for a little bit and this was the only time I pulled out the big camera our entire trip! It is amazing how lazy I get when our two kiddos are not around. We walked the length of the resort stopping to admire the sunset along our way.
We ate at the resort's Mexican restaurant this night and it was one of my favorite meals the whole trip (I promise I won't say that more than five more times ;)). But really, this shrimp stuffed pequilo pepper is one of the top five dishes I have had in my entire life- every bite was just better than the last.
The tables were so big that even when Wes and I stretched out our arms, they wouldn't touch!
Selfie because duh! we were in Mexico.
The vibrant colors had me second guessing my neutral loving decor self.
We retired fairly early (I think around 10:30) because we had been up since 3:30 in the morning and woke up the next morning ready for breakfast where we enjoyed our signature morning drink of the trip- a mochachino (sp?) with an extra shot of espresso on the side.
On our walk back to the hotel room, Wes spotted a centipede so we had to take a picture for our bug loving Emma.
This view reminded me of the walkways at Shinjuku Central Park.
That morning we snorkeled a fairly easy path and then headed to the lobby because Kelli and Cecil arrived! And somehow I have no pictures of them arriving or our day but it basically went like the day before with lunch followed by the pool and then resting up before dinner. For dinner, our husbands happened to be dressed as twinsies so they humored us and allowed us to take a picture (most likely knowing that it would go on our blogs :)).
I sure do love this guy and it was surreal to go on date night after date night after date night.
And I came to appreciate his silly selfie faces :).
We had scheduled a hibachi dinner for the night of their arrival, because Japanese food is one of my favorites! And the sushi, steak and lobster did not disappoint (Wes's tempura shrimp pictured below).
Part of the hibachi show.
After dinner, Kelli and Cecil retired to their room- they were pretty tired from waking up so early that morning and Wes and I settled down in one of our favorite outside lobby bars to enjoy another one of our favorite drinks of the trip- chocolate martini's.
The next morning we met Cecil for breakfast and then headed off to wander the resort on our own. In love with the renovations that they have done and the new outside bars- we made a mental note to make sure we visited this bar for a drink later on in the week. We played a round of hot and sticky mini golf (no pictures!) and then headed onto the pool to cool off.
Running into these cute new swim up pools tied to some of the rooms on resort.
One thing I don't have too many pictures of is all of the pool activities we played- collectively we all four loved water polo and played daily, but Cecil also enjoyed quite a bit of volleyball and Wes and I enjoyed pool darts. They really make it so fun to stay here that you never feel like you have to leave the resort.
Morning pool to ourselves before walking over to the dolphin show.
After the dolphin show, we spotted Kelli and Cecil snorkeling in the ocean and when they were done we all met up at the pool! Not only did I love all of the uninterrupted time I got to spend with Wes, but I was also thankful to catch up with this girl without our munchkins around.
For lunch that day, we headed to Wes's favorite spot on the resort- Captain Morgan's.
That afternoon- we played more water polo, searched for bingo and finally retired to our room to rest up for an hour or so before heading to the steakhouse for dinner.
Where we enjoyed lots of silly selfies.
Had a fairly good meal followed by delicious Mayan coffee! Our husbands went and caught the last part of the resort's show that night while us girls enjoyed yet another drink at the outside lobby bar :).
Such a fun first three days in Mexico!!!

We went to lunch at one of the buffets and after telling our waiter that it was Wes's birthday he brought our favorite drink (and new to us) the Mexican snake- besides being delicious, it is also just pretty to look at.
