I have always been intimidated by the idea of day in the life posts- it seems like so much work to capture every mundane detail of my day; however, I have always loved reading day in the life posts from other bloggers so when I saw that that Julia and Andrea had Day in the Life link ups coming up, I just decided to hop in and go for it.
October 11th, 2015. I am 31, Emma is 3.5 and Everly is 2.
8:12: We pull out of our driveway headed to the park; fingers crossed for girls that get along.
I especially love this one.
We head to pick the girls up, picking our littlest girl up first. As she reaches for my hand she says 'me make this fish you'. I just love hearing her talk especially in sentences- she is just growing up so fast.
Still blurry, but now you can see the fish a little bit better as we head to pick Emma up.
Emma seems to be in a much better mood after church and even obliges me when I ask her for a picture :). This girl gives me a run for my money on a daily basis, but I sure do love her to pieces.
Emma's artwork. Clearly red is her favorite color.
11:34: We pick out our smoothies (pumpkin for dad, mangosteen for me) and head to the Highlands to eat them. We chat about a variety of topics including a potentional kitchen remodel, my car that needs transmission repair, dads new scooter (orange trail 90).
Wes texts me this picture of Ev's two years ago and I reflect on not only how tiny she is, but also how much hair she had! And still does have!!
Also, Brent is here! He shows off his new instrument and much to her delight even lets Emma give it a whirl- I love her puffed cheeks!
5:02: Emma wakes up from her nap with a little bit of nudging from me because it is pretty late in the day at this point; we come downstairs and Emma is on my neck. Wes and I discuss if we should eat dinner and then go to the park or go to the park, first, and then eat dinner. We decide on the later. I start getting everyone ready for the park and decide at this point it is just easier to let them pick out their own outfits for this excursion.
They found a horse, errr dog, to pet.
Before heading to the playground- Wes chasing Emma the whole way there.
A rare moment when Ev's had the playground to herself accompanied only by that dreamy evening light.
Emma's favorite part of the park- climbing up and down every.single.rock.
Me and my girls and the pure chaos that comes with having two little ones so close in age.
October 11th, 2015. I am 31, Emma is 3.5 and Everly is 2.
6:58: Startled awake by Everly repeating 'ready go downstairs' over and over again. Roll over to see what time it is noting that even though I am still tired at least it is not 5am (and much closer to 7am) so go Everly. At the same time I am mentally congratulating my munchkin, I realize that I am desperately sore after being
kicked all night by Everly who after a late night at the Levitt concert decided it would be more fun to sleep with mommy and daddy instead of in her own crib (and one of the reasons she is still in her same clothes as the night before). She feels a little warm and I make a mental note to check to see if she is possibly getting another tooth which would explain her constant neediness lately.
7:03: Officially decide to do this day in the life; take a screenshot of my phone and realize that if I am going to record a day in the life, I must get my phone on the charger asap if I want to have enough juice for all of the pictures today.
As I make my way to the toilet Everly notes that I go pee pee in potty, Emma goes pee pee in potty and when I ask her if she wants to go pee pee in potty she is silent. Ahhhh potty training. Just ready to be done with this topic, but it hasn't even really started yet. Ev's has the best bed head and snuggles in morning so of course this means we need to capture this sweet morning moment.

7:08: Finally downstairs with my munchkin and we breathe in the morning peacefulness that is associated with big sister still being asleep. Ev's is immediately tugging at my hand while saying 'something to eat, up mommy' until we go into kitchen to
make her something to eat. I am shocked that she turns down her normal 'waff' instead opting for a peanut butter sandwich always insisting on sitting on the island.
7:16: Emma calls out for daddy which means that our daily dose of chaos has officially
woken up for the day. A few minutes later, Emma comes downstairs with daddy and is already crying. Make coffee
stat.
7:31: This is the most chaotic part of the day. Nothing we do makes Emma
happy: we chose the wrong color plate, wrong color knife, she has multiple meltdowns and ends up spilling a container of bubbles. Where is the coffee? While we are in the process of settling Emma down, I make Ev's second breakfast of the day, because low and behold she really does want a 'waff'. Wes is working on our family Halloween costumes and comments that it will
be close to 100 degrees today. It is October 11th, how in the world is it ok to be 100 degrees today.
7:51: Settled the girls down to watch their one morning episode of Peppa Pig and finally sit down to drink coffee- purposely chose my Chengdu coffee mug and find myself dreaming about moving our family to China for a couple of years. I know this is a pipe dream, but I can't help but get all wanderlust and starry eyed thinking about what a cool experience it would be.
I overhear Ev's tell Wes 'luf you daddy' and my heart bursts into a million pieces- this girl loves her daddy.

I begin to rush around like a crazy person to get everyone ready. I decide at the last minute that I want to take the girls to the park to take a few pictures for my blog post on Monday before Religious Ed classes which start at 9am! A small miracle occurs and I get everyone dressed without a single fuss. And as a side note, I am wearing my booties for the first time which make me feel somewhat fashionable and a year late jumping on the bandwagon.
8:20: We arrive at park, and I instantly realize that I should have set lower expectations for one of my girls. Everly is beyond excited that not only does she have new shoes, but she has a twirly dress of her own as well and gives us a few great shots.
I especially love this one.
I mean, she just steals my heart on a daily basis. I am not sure there are many kids sweeter than her.
And I am not sure there are many kids more high maintenance than Emma ;). Joking. Sort of. I mean it could be much worse, but to paraphrase and not go through the gory details, there was lots of whining crying, losing
patience and even timeout on the bench. I probably shouldn't have pushed it with the time (and let them play to get pictures rather than instruct them on what they should be doing), but it is what it is and I am still glad we went, because I am stubborn like that :).
This is what I get for trying to get a picture with us three girls ;).

8:45: The alarm on my phone goes off indicating that it is time to head to church; the girls are finally getting along as we start to make our way back to the car.
8:53: Everyone is loaded up and it is time to speed to church as we are in serious danger of being late.
9:01: We arrive at church and race inside to drop the girls off at their respective classes. Ahhh there is peace and quiet at last.
9:48: This was the shortest
Mass in the history of forever. Send Austin and Mom a quick text.

We head home to drop Wes off and discuss quickly what our menu will be for the week, while I gather the gift card I had gotten my parents for watching the girls while we went to Mexico.
10:29: We arrive at Nonni's house and Emma lets herself in (while carrying my camera); ummmmm, when did it become not mandatory to knock on Nonni's door? I am not sure, but I remind myself that I need to have a chat with Emma about her manners.
Immediately upon arrival, Emma asks for a 'movie' (smoothie), I insist
on pictures first- I still really wanted to get a picture of me with my girls. However, Emma only wants to take pictures with Nonni. And since they turn out ridiculously cute, I am ok with somehow not getting to be in the pictures.
The girls quickly turn their attention to getting flowers out of Papa George's garden.
After looking at the back of my camera, I realize how lucky I am to have such a picturesque landscape at my fingertips.
After they pick the flower for their hair, Nonni gets them all situated with the correct clip. Papa George comes back from run and Emma is so excited to show him the flowers in her hair.

11:01: Meanwhile, Papa George requests some sausage so Nonni cooks some extra for the girls too and they sit down to eat breakfast (possibly for the 3rd time) consisting of breakfast sausage and bananas- I am beginning to think I have teenage boys and not a two and three year old girls (who are fairly petite).
11:09: Dad and I leave for Smoothie King while Mom keeps the girls. I holler back at Emma to be good for
Nonni and she responds 'oh, I will.' and I am silently praying that she does behave. We drive in my parents Miata with the top down and for once today, I feel like a 'cool' adult rather than a mom ;).

While we were gone, the girls walked across the street with my mom to look for ducks; however, they found limited water (the lakes are down from the drought we have been having) and no ducks but it seems like they still had fun.
12:24: We are back at my parents house and starting to pack up to head home. The girls were on the verge of melting down, Ev's needed to get home for her nap.
When I pulled up at our house on our way home, I always think myself that I live a 5 minute drive from my parents house (and approximately 1.6 miles :)).
12:39: Inside and snuggling my girl and with tired eyes she looks at me and says "you my
mommy". While this might be like a duh moment to some people, it is meaningful to Ev's as Emma is always trying to claim that coveted mommy title. Our girl is beyond
tired but it's not quite nap time yet since we need to wait on big sister.
Also, Brent is here! He shows off his new instrument and much to her delight even lets Emma give it a whirl- I love her puffed cheeks!
1:06: Emma insists on a big glass cup full of ice water and yogurt while sitting down to watch her one show (I think it was Wallykazam) before nap time. I get her all settled and heat up a slice of chicken and goat cheese pizza for myself.
At this moment, I wish Evsie's didn't know her colors; she wants blue yogurt but we only have red. Girlfriend is soooo tired. Pleas note, I also didnt get to finish my pizza yet ;).

She finally says that pink yogurt is ok and I settle her down for some Wallykazam too.
I finish my pizza and start uploading pictures on Snapfish knowing that I only have about 10 minutes until their show is over.

1:27: Their show is over and they come running over in the other living room clamoring to get in my lap. Ev's insists of picture with Lolly and says again 'again again' over and over :).
1:34: All of the girls head upstairs to start three way naps after lots of advice from Wes
and finding Ev's the right teddy bear blankie. Emma snuggles up in my blardigan, Ev's talks about monsters and
dragons and 'lolli' and after jabbering for a bit insists on holding my hand and falls asleep at 1:48.
2:05: Emma is asleep and momentarily I think I have conquered three way naps. This is where the entire afternoon went awry. Emma woke up five minutes after falling asleep and we both need to go potty. It's hot (remember it was supposed to be 100 degrees today) so I don't want to wear my blardigan any longer. I suggest that Emma just cuddle up in it and this, my friends, sends her into her worst meltdown of the day which consists of lots of crying, bed trashing and needing to go to the bathroom again. After 45 minutes of not settling down and waking her sister up twice, I take Emma to her room. Wes goes to Ev's and get her calmed down and back to sleep, but not for long because she is confused by what happened. Battle of the wills occurred and we both fall asleep somewhere around 3:30? Left my phone in our bedroom so I don't know the exact time.

4:05: I wake up and head downstairs to see what time it is. I grab my phone and head back to Emma's room, take the picture above, start to work on this post and continue to upload pictures
to Snapfish.
4:46: Emma rolls over and looks at me, but she must be tired because she goes right back to sleep.

5:45: We arrive at the park and take note that lots of families had this idea today. The girls are mostly interested in the playground, but we convince them to take a look at the ducks first. Emma is enamored with the goose until I tell her the story about Austin getting bit by a goose back in the day. She just can't believe that a goose would bite Aust and mentions this fact several times.
They found a horse, errr dog, to pet.

6:25: We arrive home and I make a quick (solo) trip to Taco Cabana to pick up a couple of side nachos and condiments to go with our fish tacos. Wes texts me on the way home to say that we only have three tortillas so I also make a quick trip to Kroger. I catch the tail end of the pink sunset on my way home and take a second to marvel the changing colors.
7:00: We sit down at the dining room table for dinner which is quite late for us.
7:21: After a quick dinner (where the girls just poked at their fish), we headed outside for light show- we have our own radio station which is pretty cool.
Ev's pipes in (quite dramatically), 'ghosts hop up' while showing us her best jumping skills. We have a big discussion about little ghosts versus tall ghosts and dole out a plethora of kisses to our friendly ghosts.
After the light show, Wes leaves to take Brent home, get me gas for the week

8:03: Our day ends the same way it started with a show (Team Umizoomi and a 'nack) and as I wrote in my iPhone notes, Mom is exhausted. After the show, I take Ev's up to tuck her in for the night and Wes does the same for Emma.
After Ev's is in bed for the night (still insisting on wearing this pink dress), I upload a few more pictures to Snapfish (I was way behind), tidy up my iPhone notes and head to bed shortly.

What a post!! I'm sure this one was a lot of work!! I have to say - Evs killed it in the pictures this day (the park ones with her new shoes/dress and in your parents backyard), your booties are great, and Emma trying to eat Noni's face is hilarious. I'm exhausted just reading about it. maybe next time you should pick a work day to document...jk! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness this post is so much fun! I love this little glimpse of your life!! What beautiful daughters you have.
