Singapore | River Safari/Night Safari

After we rested at the hotel following our morning at the Merlion statue and the Singapore Flyer, we headed out to the River Safari!

^ this manatee really put on a show for us. ^

^ they are quite ginormous especially compared to my itty bitty five year old. ^
^ they had a neat area where you could walk through and see monkeys climbing all about right on top of you. ^
^ we walked along a path checking things out as we headed to the boat. ^
^ this might be my favorite picture of me and Emma - we had just gotten on the boat and I love that real, genuine smile :). ^
^ dad and sis on the boat. I love love love her little wave. ^
^ I will say I thought the river safari was just meh, the girls liked being on a boat, but we didn't get a chance to see many animals.  the park itself was really nice, but I could have done without the river safari. ^

^ after the safari, we found these cute dinosaur eggs. ^
^ Emma and Wes went on another part of the animal safari, but Ev's didn't meet the height requirement so cotton candy for me and her while we waited on the other two. ^
^ she thought this was a fair trade ;).  no pictures from Wes and Emma, but they said it was better than the river safari and they got to see many more animals. ^
^ Ev's and I stumbled upon a meet and greet animal show and she was pretty pumped when she saw that hedgehogs would be involved. ^

^ we met back up with Emma and Wes just in time for petting an iguana. ^

^ and then pictures with pelicans. ^
^ this is what the safari boat looked like out on the water. beautiful scenery everywhere we looked. ^
^ we headed to see their panda's (of course we have a hard time being impressed by panda's given our access to the Chengdu Panda Research Base, but it was still fun!)

^ we turned and looked and couldn't find Ev's and then we spotted her back petting the baby panda. ^
^ they had a little pond with a few starfish and mini stingray (I don't think that is the proper name ;)) and the girls loved getting an up close view. ^

^ they both look pretty happy for being eaten by alligators ;). ^
^ and that wrapped up our time at the River safari just as they were starting to close. ^
^ Wes and I try to research quite a bit before heading out on our trips - especially since we travel with the girls, we want things to go as smoothly as possible; however, we still make a mistake or two and the Night Safari was definitely a mistake that I made.  Wes sent me a message one day asking me which time I wanted to sign up for 7 or 8pm and I had done one google search that said to take the safari later at night. So on a whim, I just chose 8pm, but what I did not realize is that is what time you can enter the park.  So we basically had to sit outside the night safari with thousands of other people to wait until 8pm to enter.  It was a lesson in patience for all of us. ^
^ just as we walked into the park, this one fell asleep in her stroller. ^
^ the lines were outrageous (this is once we got into the park) - definitely the most crowded activity we did all trip! ^
^ and this is how I enjoyed the safari - my sweet baby girl cuddled up in my arms (while it was ok for me, we felt badly for Everly that she missed out because she had really been looking forward to it).  We tried to wake her up, but she didn't want to have anything to do with it so we just let her sleep.  I don't have any pictures of the animals because flash was not allowed, which was kind of nice - we just sat back and enjoyed our safari trip.  this activity was so much fun! Emma, Wes and I really enjoyed seeing the animals at night - it was like nothing we had ever done before. ^

Lunch Bags for the Girls

If it wasn't evident by yesterday's post where Wes not only makes sure that he makes it to all activities at the girls school, but he also drags our 'big' camera and takes pictures for me; he is also still in the lunch bag making business.  Even Emma has requested lunch bags this year so yes, you can do the math - that is 10 bags a week that he makes for our girls.  He hasn't taken many pictures of the bags that he has made this year so this is just a small sampling, but really, he's the best!

The girls excitedly tell their teachers when their is a bag that they really like (the teachers will send us notes) so we know it is really meaningful to them :).  When the girls look back on their childhood years, I hope they will always fondly reflect on the lunch bags their dad made them - it is truly special.  Think they will still be taking one when they are 18? I doubt it, so we are soaking this stage up!!

A 'Favorite' Book Character Parade

Last Thursday, the girls had a 'favorite' book character parade.  I say 'favorite' in quotations because in reality most girls dressed like princesses and it was a prelude to Halloween, but it was adorable nonetheless.  I was flying home this day, but Wes was able to attend and it looks like the girls had the best day.  They wear uniforms daily, so any chance to not wear uniforms and instead dress up like princesses is the best for them.

Wes sent me this picture just as I landed in Shanghai, the girls were up, dressed and it was only 6:45 in the morning :).  I could just tell they were so proud of themselves and excited for the day.  Wes said when they got to the bus stop, the other three kids at their bus stop were not in costume and Emma said, 'ummmm, dad. why isn't anyone else wearing a costume?'. Wes asked her if she was embarrassed and she said, 'oh no, their loss.'. I hope they keep this confidence for many years to come!

I think they were pretty excited to see Wes!

Emma was so very proud of her book/costume and that her daddy was there.

Emma's turn to parade :). Her hair was everything to her.  I know that some of you (or all of you) may think it is ridiculous (and so do I sometimes if I am being honest), but it truly makes her happy and for that its worth it.

She was truly beaming. She won 1st prize for her costume and they said it was because of her hair :).

When the girls got off the school bus, they could not have been happier or had a better day at school! We love their school :).
