Life has gotten the best of me these past few months; as a result, you are going to get an Emma update that covers two months.  I hope Emma doesn't look back on this feeling neglected and subsequently needs therapy ;). 

Skills: I can no longer remember and document every word that Emma says- it is just too many!  My favorite thing that she says is Emma and Everly (which ends up sounding a whole lot more like Olivia).  She says Everly no problem when prompted, it takes a little bit more prodding to get her to say Emma.  Also, we have gotten nowhere with her saying love you. Can you tell I am sad?  Some of the other words that I love to hear her say are: lights, hold you, pretty please, thank you, “no, no, no” while shaking her hand (especially if Bailey is trying to get her food), ice cream, Nonni, Grandpa George, hungry, uh oh and baby.. oooooo”.  We have been working on the alphabet a little bit, and she knows the order A, B, C- but I am not sure it means anything to her.  She can say the colors pink, purple and green- but I am not 100% sure that she can identify those colors if asked.  She understands so much- some of the things that amaze me are knowing the difference between her and Everly’s diapers and will bring the correct one when asked, hide and go seek (and saying boo!), she knows what each of the rooms in our house are called (for example, if we say Emma, go get your woof woof pajamas in the other living room, she will go and get them), that she has gone to the bathroom and will let us know which one she did (although she is a little overzealous on the #2 not always getting it right) and that she uses the word sorry in the right context. 

Likes: using utensils, eating soup (esp after a bowl and with a bag of chips), ice cream, reading books (she is getting pretty good at identifying things on a page), singing (happy day is the favorite), going to preschool, going outside, dancing (still a favorite of mine every time she busts out her dance moves), telling Bailey no, getting all up in Everly’s business (poor girl cannot have a tummy time session alone!), going to Target (when we pull up she says popcorn), seeing her grandparents, kicking and throwing any ball, drinking her “juice” and eating chocolate. 

Struggles: Emma is still a little pain at restaurants.  We actually don’t go to many restaurants anymore because of this J.  One night during these months, we did meet at Chuy’s which has become our most recent favorite restaurant.  They have queso available almost immediately, so besides getting it all over her and me, she did pretty good.  We got Emma her first true coat this winter and let me tell you- she was not excited about it one bit!  To get her to put it on at first I had to bribe her with chocolate chips- the horror!  Luckily, she has gotten a little better at this.  Wes realized that instead of saying that you are not going to be able to go outside if you don’t wear your jacket , that we need to say it is cold outside and she is a little more willing to put her jacket on.  Sleep is also a constant struggle.  She is up several times every night.  For the most part, Wes can walk in there and tell her to lay down and she will, but some days that just won’t do.  Wes and her will sleep in one of our extra bedrooms or they will come to our bed.  This combined with Everly’s sleeping make for some early nights and tired mornings. 

Miscellaneous: Emma is the slowest teeth getter ever. And I mean ever.  We are still rocking 8 teeth + 4 1^st year molars.  I know she has some other teeth that want to come through, but they just haven’t popped through.  Emma is still in size three diapers and wears mostly 18 – 24 month clothing.  Most days she seriously has the best little personality and is honest to goodness funny.  Other days, the smallest thing will set her off and she will lose her marbles.  Every day is a different day with a toddler J.  We love this sweet, vivacious toddler that we get to call ours J.
