Letter to Everly: 5 Months

Sweet Ev’s,

You are truly the sweetest baby.  This month was a big month for you- traveling home from Port Aransas + 30th birthday activities + Ice storm + Christmas festivities + meeting Adge and grandma for the first time.  You were a champ through it all.  Family would hold and cuddle you and you would just take it all in.  You are definitely a people watcher.  Several people commented about what a sweet baby you are- and they are right, you really are the best little baby.

This month you started teething big time.  You want to grab and pull anything and everything into your mouth and will often settle for your fingers or your thumb with a side of slobber. You got a Sophie teether for Christmas and you have been loving it.  This is also the first time I have seen your feisty side.  You do not like it AT ALL if Emma tries to take your Sophie or rattle away which happens often.  You are a little too young to understand but we are trying to instill in you and your big sister that y’all are best friends.

As far as your motor skills go- you have been sitting up for over a month now and you only fall down when you are tired.  I love that you sit up- it makes you and us so much more comfortable.  You have not made a budge in the rolling over category which means that next month we will have to have more dedicated tummy time to “encourage” you.  You are definitely grabbing for toys and have a pretty good grasp at getting the toy to your mouth.  You have found your toes and love pulling on them and sometimes even try to chew on them as well.

Sleep.  Everly, when are you going to realize how precious that sleep is?  Hopefully soon.  You are still sleeping in our room and we have not made the switch over to your room yet.  Soon, though, and I am nervous as to how you are going to adjust.  Maybe not at 6 months, but definitely at 7 months.

You are still on 100% breast milk which just makes me elated as you can imagine.  I just love your little sigh when you latch on.  It is almost as if you are telling me that “thank goodness, that is not one of those silly bottles”.  Towards the end of the month, you started to really show an interest in food.  You watch very intently as we move food from the plate to our mouth.  You have the rest of your life to eat sweet Everly, for the next month- you will remain on mama’s milk alone :).

Hair. Oh my goodness, the hair.  You have the best hair little one.  I am still amazed that you never lost the full head of hair you were born with.  Your hair is your most complimented feature and it is for good reason- it is so cute and there is so much of it!  You also have the most beautiful eyes.  We still haven’t figured out exactly what colors they are- they are a gorgeous, milky brown and green and sometimes even some blue mixed in.

The last thing that I want to talk about is your giggle and your smile.  During the month you definitely developed the full on baby giggle- I love love love it!  It is so innocent sounding.  Your mostly laugh when we rub your neck during bath time, when we play peek-a-boo or when daddy tickles you :).  You continue to have the best smile.  If you just see someone that you recognize, you light up with a smile.  Sometimes you even smile at strangers.

You and your sister are the best thing that happened to me and your daddy.  I love you to the moon and back.

All my love,
Mommy
